About Us
Mack's Fishing Camp, a remote community on the edge of the Everglades, is a family-owned encampment that a federal study recommends be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Perched on a levee just inches above the flow of the Everglades, Mack's Fishing Camp is one of the most remote, least-known communities in Broward County, a 70-year-old family-owned swamp encampment often threatened with extinction by sawgrass fires, high water and bureaucratic neglect.
Now a federal study has recommended that the colorful collection of ramshackle homes and a general store be listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Traditional Cultural Property. That designation would give Keith and his twin brother Marshall Jones and other descendants of the founding family a protective recognition and a loud voice in Everglades restoration projects that could affect recreational activities such as hunting, fishing or air-boating.
5 Generations of Gladesmen
We are here to provide you with a memorable experience.
The Jones family have been on this land for over 72 years. In those years we have farmed the land, harvested the plentiful bounty of wildlife which God put here for all of us and operated as a fishing camp for most of that time . There have been severe droughts, which lasted several years, floods high enough to make our family sleep on the "top bunk" and fish kills often enough to put a major damper on the whole fish population. Some of the droughts have led to vast fires which we survived and in part due to the Division of Forestry.
Many times "Hollywood" found our establishment to be a perfect setting for their large productions.
